AmericInn by Wyndham Princeton MN

The stay at AmericInn by Wyndham Princeton MN was fine, and the room was comfortable enough, though a little dated. The walls seemed thin. I might give it another try sometime.

The lobby was cute and modern, but the breakfast space was small and the choices were limited. There were two hockey teams staying that weekend, and this is the only hotel in the area. The room smelled horrible and had been cleaned terribly. I found dried vomit on the bottom mattress under the headboard. I’m sensitive to mold and coughed all night, so I had to sleep with the window open. Unacceptable, especially for the nightly price. I’ll be calling corporate today. The armoire was broken, so the ironing board had to sit at an angle. I found out the hard way when I set it straight against the back and it tipped forward, nearly hitting me in the face.

The staff were excellent and did what they could to help, from unlocking the pool to bringing extra toiletries. The pool and hot tub were relaxing, just as expected, and opening at 7am was nice. The suite’s jacuzzi and fireplace were its best features, since you don’t see those in many suites now. Still, the property felt dated, almost like they’d just put on a new logo. Our room was okay, but there were wrappers and salt packets under the couch, so some housekeeping could be better. Both TVs had blurry picture quality, which I’ve never had to complain about at a hotel. Noise went on through the night, including the national anthem blasting at 5am. I respect that, but people were trying to sleep. Breakfast was enjoyable, though smaller than at some other AmericInn locations, with no eggs or similar items, and the waffles weren’t great. There was no gym, which was a drawback for people who exercise. I’ve stayed at better AmericInn places. This one was okay for one night, but could have been better.

If you’re local, call the hotel to see whether open swim is available during quieter weekday hours. They let people use the pool and hot tub for a small fee, which is a reasonably priced thing to do. A soak in the hot tub while snow falls outside sounds pretty nice.
