Providence Marriott Downtown

My family and I stayed here last weekend for a competition, and it was a very disappointing experience. Although the hotel advertises newly renovated rooms, we were put in an older section with visible mold, stained carpets, and poor air quality. My husband and child both developed allergic reactions, including sore throat, cough, itchy eyes, and fever. To me, that clearly points to unsafe room conditions.

For two days, they charged my card $600, plus I had to pay $35 a night for parking, and the stay was awful. The room was dirty, there was hair in the shower, no hand or floor towels, and the toilet wouldn’t flush until we called maintenance. On day two, in the middle of winter, there was no hot water, just ice-cold water and pins and needles. We were here for a competition weekend. I could’ve stayed at a Quality Inn and had a better experience. It was terrible from start to finish, and I’ll never stay at a Marriott again!

The hotel was about 20 minutes from the airport, and the lobby was clean and lively when I arrived. My spouse was there for a work conference, with a Sunday-to-Friday reservation. I joined him Wednesday and stayed through the end of the booking. We had a King size room with a couch, which I liked having during the day. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. There was a mini fridge and coffee maker in the room, while the microwave was downstairs in the lobby. I also liked that the window opened just a little, enough to let in fresh air. Our side faced the train track, so I heard trains plenty of times, but after a while I tuned them out. Some restaurants were about a 20-minute walk away. It got dark early, but I never felt unsafe walking there. We also uber over to Ben and Jerry’s, then walked back, about 25 minutes. Again, we felt safe, with other people out walking around. I’d stay here again if I were in the area.

The lobby looks showy and “nice,” but the hallways had marks all over the walls and stains on the rug. The hot tub barely qualifies as one because the jets hardly work. The pool area was extremely wet and honestly disgusting, and you can clearly see green bacteria growing on the entry stairs. Staff communication was very poor, and they seemed clueless. A woman on the night staff yelled at us like children when we tried to open the automatic doors, which apparently require a key card after a certain time. We’ll never stay at this location again. The staff should honestly be ashamed to work here. If you have a choice, DO NOT stay here.
