Tropical Bay Inn Motel

A convenient laundry room and supplied coffee pods for the Keurig made the stay easy, and the host was responsive and accommodating. We liked the homey feel and how well the smaller space was used. It’s a great base for going out around town or exploring nature, with a lovely view just 100 yards away at the ocean-front park across the street. I enjoyed looking around in the tide pools and wading in the ocean in the mornings, then watching the sunsets in the evenings. We ended up staying an extra night!

The clean, comfortable Cozy cottage is a great little Inn, and as the name suggests, awesome SUNSETS are just steps away. Tom, Brandon, and Shalize, along with the whole staff, were friendly and wonderful hosts. Give it a stay, you can thank me later!

The place was neat and clean, and the small living area and kitchenette worked perfectly. Check-in and checkout went smoothly, and communication with the manager was easy. Although Unit 1 is on Bayshore Drive, traffic noise didn’t bother us. The location was convenient for getting to restaurants and shops in Port Charlote and Punta Gorda. I’d stay again, but not in Unit 1. Given the issues below, I’d also check the size of any other unit before booking. The biggest concern with the listing is its description as being across from the pier. The pier has been washed away by a hurricane for several years, and the park along the street is fully fenced off. There’s really nowhere within an easy walk of the Inn to watch the sunset or fish. I can only speak for Unit 1, but its bathroom is VERY small. If you have any mobility or balance issues, using the toilet or getting into the shower is extremely difficult because you have to sort of climb over the toilet. There are no handrails to help you balance, and a large person would have trouble too. My wife is 5'4", but the mirror is so high that she could only see from the top of her head to her nose. The bedroom furniture is too large for the room. The bed is pushed against one wall so the door can open, and neither my wife nor I could safely climb over it from the wall side to get out. We pulled it away from the wall, leaving my wife about 8 inches to squeeze through. I couldn’t physically use that side. After moving the bed, the bedroom door couldn’t open all the way, so the person sleeping on that side has to watch their head when getting up. There’s only about a foot to walk between the bed and dresser at the foot of the bed and to reach the closet. With balance issues and a cane, I basically couldn’t get to the closet.

The patio felt tucked away, with those big wooden beach chairs, and the little retro touches around the place gave it character. The unit was a nice size and felt like having a small home of our own. A perfect place to stay.
