Bayshore Resort at Put-in-Bay

It was our first time on the island, and my husband and I stayed for a few nights. Everyone was really nice and the rooms clean. There are two heated pools and a hot tub that seats about 30 people. The view of Lake Erie is perfect from any floor. Highly recommend!

The view was great, and the woman at the front desk was helpful and friendly when we checked in on August 18, 2025. The rest of our stay was frustrating. At the poolside bar, they sold us a margarita mixed with Sprite, even though the bartender said it was her first day and they didn’t know how to make one. We ended up going to other hotels’ pools for drinks. The shower water was so hot the next morning that we couldn’t shower or even brush our teeth with cold water. We were told they were working on it, but for the three remaining days there wasn’t enough hot water to shower. Most of the staff seemed to be exchange students without supervision. At night no one was at the front desk, so anyone could walk in. There’s no restroom in the lobby, so you have to go down the hall and outside near the fireplace. My wife fell on the way to the restroom, and nobody helped her. When she told staff she’d fallen in the hallway, they said nothing.

The location is great, with a very short walk to the main strip of bars, restaurants, and shops. We also liked the pool, hot tub, and lake view. But my boyfriend and I slept poorly because the beds were extremely uncomfortable, and we woke up with back and hip pain every night. The shower had only one temperature, extremely hot and hardly bearable. There was no microwave or refrigerator. The mattresses and shower temperature are the only reasons we wouldn’t stay again.

The views are amazing, the employees are very nice, and the drinks at the pool bar were very good. For all the money you pay, though, you’d expect better upkeep. The ice machine on our floor and our room’s hair dryer were both broken, and our first rental golf cart wasn’t in good repair. We reported everything, but the replacement cart was only slightly better, the ice machine wasn’t fixed during our stay, and neither was the hair dryer. We didn’t report the second cart again because by then we just wanted to get out of the hotel. This is still an above-average place and probably the best hotel on the island. I’d stay again, but I’d be more insistent about the problems. With a better maintenance staff and more attention to detail, it could be a star-type place.
