Placid Bay Hotel

The Adirondacks were the reason for our surprise getaway, and Placid Bay was a good base for most of it. It’s close to the main parts of town, just a couple of minutes either way, and easy to reach from the main road. The room was small but clean and workable, and after hiking, that deep soaking tub was wonderful. The bathroom itself could use an update. The first night was rough. Other guests played loud music and partied until nearly 8 a.m., waking us more than once. The place is known as a quiet spot for people doing outdoor activities, so that was a letdown. With contactless check-in, there weren’t employees around to call, apart from the cleaning staff. We reported it by text when asked how the stay was, but nothing came of it. That lack of customer service brings the rating down. Apart from that night, the trip was pleasant and the hotel was good enough.

The renovated rooms were lovely and very clean. It’s handy for getting around, and there’s a shuttle to Whiteface Mountain. The staff were helpful too.

I noticed small bites on my back and couldn’t tell whether they might be bed bug bites. When I checked under the sheets, there wasn’t even a protective cover on the mattress. It was just a thin sheet between me and the mattress. With bed bug problems being so common, leaving it unprotected feels cheap and careless. Disgusting and unhygienic.

The room was spotless, and everyone on staff was really friendly. I had a small problem during my stay, called the number left in the room, and the manager sorted it out within 20 minutes. That was impressive. Check-in was contactless and very simple, so arriving was smooth and stress-free. I was pleasantly surprised by Placid Bay Hotel and will definitely return.
