Ms Dorothy was kind, but this place has gone downhill from when it used to be good. The pool is closed, the water has been turned off, and there’s nowhere to launch my boat. It’s quiet, though another woman on staff was rude to my family, so I won’t be coming often.

The bathhouses are spacious, and the laundry room was the best we’ve seen so far. We had to leave early, and the staff handled it wonderfully. They even invited us to stay for their Labor Day cookout before we headed out, which was really kind. Our site was tucked among the trees and had lovely water views. The campsite was clean, too. Getting there takes you well off the beaten path, but the drive is beautiful and full of deer, so go slowly. The remote location can be inconvenient if you need a store or have forgotten something. I needed laundry quarters, but the office didn’t have any, and they didn’t provide fire rings either. That was disappointing since we’d just bought s’mores supplies for the kids, and this was the last campground of our two-week trip. The pond looked too dried up for fishing, though the kids gave it a try and had no luck. I’d guess the lack of rain was to blame, which isn’t the campground’s fault.

Nancy & Doug were so welcoming, and the other campers were friendly too. The laundry was spotless. We loved the ocean views, steady breezes, and colorful sunsets. The cabin was cozy, though its exterior could use some care. A peaceful spot for a family getaway, with Cape Charles beaches about 30 mins away.

It’s quiet here and not bad for the price, which is practically free. The place is somewhat run-down, and it’s pretty much in the middle of nowhere. If you’re camping, bring your own gear for activities and your own fireplace setup if needed. No site has one, and open fires aren’t allowed.

The seasonal campers kept their music blaring all day and well into the evening. It was so loud we couldn’t even hear music at our own site. At 10pm I finally asked them to turn it down so we could get some sleep.
