Rancho Inn

The room itself was nearly empty, with no artwork, no headboard, and just one bedside table. Three of the four pillows were stained, there were no washcloths or hand towels, and I only got two bath towels. My room wasn't serviced during my two-night stay. The adjoining doors let sound pass straight through, and people partied in the hallway outside my room at 1am. The listing called it a balcony, but it's really the hallway for the rooms. My door didn't have a security lock, which made the noise outside feel worse. People were living in cars in the lot, and my neighbors seemed settled in like it was an apartment. It felt like a homeless shelter. I also found articles about the owner suing a nonprofit that tried to lease the property as a halfway house; I feel like this kind of thing should have been disclosed. I understand why Choice removed the Comfort Inn name, and I won't return. Don't trust reviews or photos from before 2025; the standards have dropped.

Check-in was quick and easy, and the room was clean. That's all the good I can say about it. I had to go get towels, there was no ice machine, fridge, or microwave, and after a 14+ hour flight I found the shower didn't work. The free internet was sporadic at best.

The room was very clean, and there were lots of restaurants nearby. But the refrigerator was full of old food, and I have no idea when it was last cleaned. At check-in, the clerk said I didn't have a reservation, even though I'd booked through Choice Hotels and had a confirmation. He said the hotel hadn't been part of Choice for over three months. I called Choice Hotels to complain, but they didn't seem to care. I ended up checking in on my own.

I'm reading the reviews from one of the rooms right now, and I'm honestly surprised by the property. I wasn't sure what to expect at that price, but wow, the front desk has been great so far. I'd definitely recommend it unless you're the sort of person who goes looking for something bad in everything.
