We had five people in our room, with the couch folded out, and still had plenty of space. It stayed quiet, and the location was great for driving to Keystone and nearby attractions. The laundry room came in handy, although it was $2.50 per washer and dryer, and one of each was out of order, so laundry took longer. During our weeklong visit the hotel was sold out at least one night, so it was a busy stretch. As regular Holiday Inn Express guests, we found the rooms comfortable and clean, and breakfast was well stocked and prepared well. The front desk team were polite and helpful, and most staff were great. A few things fell short: towels ran out, possibly because the dryer was broken, and we had to ask for toilet paper instead of having it replenished during cleaning. The pool room was so full of chemicals that our eyes hurt if we stayed too long. One breakfast attendant kicked the rock away from the patio door we were holding open, then locked several families outside. The way she handled it felt rude, though I'm sure she gets tired of having to say something.

The staff were attentive and courteous, and the common areas looked clean and well kept. Our room was clean, functional, and free of any problems we noticed. We were in town for two nights to revisit Mount Rushmore, Wind Cave, and other attractions. We've stayed at HI-Express hotels around the country and usually enjoy them; this location was no exception. Breakfast was very good and what you'd expect from a HI-Express. The new coffee machines are nice but a bit slow, and having coffee available around the clock is a welcome addition. We had a nice stay.

The hotel is quite far from town, which was the one drawback for me. Otherwise, the rooms were clean, staff friendly, and breakfast had plenty of good options. There's also a store in the gas station next door for everyday needs.

I was disappointed not to get any status goodies. The carpet was bunched up in both rooms, which could make someone trip. The hotel was pretty empty during my one-night stay, but my first room was right beside an occupied one, and I could clearly hear the guests talking. They moved me, but the comforter in the new room was stained.

We felt very safe in the area during our two-night stay. The rooms were spacious and very clean, and the staff were pleasant. The breakfast was a proper hot one, and the breakfast area was clean and well maintained. Highly recommend.
