Super 8 by Wyndham Raton

The only room available while my father was in the hospital was disgusting. It smelled like something, though I don’t know what, and there was hair in the sheets. The floors were dirty, and the linoleum wasn’t attached to the floor. The gentleman at check-in was very nice, but don’t waste your money. Keep driving to Trinidad, Springer, or Vegas.

😞 I stayed just one night. There were other choices, but this place seemed like it would work. I usually try to find something positive wherever I go, since they’re providing a service and I know it’s hard to please everyone. Still, honestly, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. It’s missing basic things like cleanliness and comfort, and the breakfast should be decent instead of just bread and butter. If you’re coming to Ratón for a day or longer, I’d look for somewhere else to spend the night.

I got there shortly before 3 p.m. and couldn’t find anyone at the front desk or get an answer when I called. Once the man arrived, check-in was easy and he was very nice. The room itself was dirty. I was on the first floor, where the vinyl floor hadn’t been swept or cleaned. There was something on the corner chair that looked like chocolate, but I didn’t want to find out what it really was. There was hair on the bed, and the sheets were so worn they were nearly see-through. The bathroom was dirty too. Hair in the tub, dirty shower walls, mold along the bottom edges of the tub and curtain, and the shower curtain was wet. With the Little League All-Star Tournaments going on, I didn’t think I could find another room. I’ll never stay at this particular Super 8 again.

Breakfast had mostly been left behind, but the bearded front desk staff were professional and even warned me not to leave doors open because of bears. The room was clean and practical, though the cigarette-burned bedspreads have seen better days. Outside the window it’s all Mickey D’s and Arby’s, and inside I was entertained by a Back to the Future marathon. After a long downhill drive south, this Super 8 just off the exit did the job. Nothing fancy, but I’d stay again while passing through Raton.
