The location makes it easy to walk to restaurants, the reep rental, and other places, even with all the street construction going on. I’ve stayed at around a dozen spots in Red River over the years, and at 71 I’d always noticed Deer Lodge. This time it was just the two of us, and I was trying to keep costs down. The lodge is older, but a lot of work has gone into maintaining the inside and outside of the units. Our small one-bedroom was just right, clean, with redone bathrooms and clean, comfortable beds. A mirror in the room would help since the bathroom is too small for people to share one. We didn’t need them this visit, but the outdoor toys for kids could use a cleaning and repair.

The staff were so pleasant and friendly that I’d happily come back. I spent four nights there, and the bed was comfortable, the water stayed hot, and there were plenty of lights in the room. It’s an older establishment, but very nice for its age.

A simple, no-frills log cabin with that 1950s high-country feel. The beds and bedding were good, and I liked the windows and its location in town. Service was friendly and accommodating.

For $200 a night, this motel was very poor value. When we checked in, we seriously thought about giving up on the trip and driving home. It feels outdated and in need of renovation, and the long-term owner doesn’t seem to be spending what’s needed to maintain it. There’s no AC, and the shower water couldn’t be adjusted properly. It kept flipping between scalding hot and freezing cold on its own. The website listed a $30 pet fee, but we were asked to pay $50. At least the room was clean and bug-free, and the couple managing the motel were very nice.

The manager, Ben, was really nice and helpful. The rooms are tiny, the floors aren’t level, and the mattress needs replacing.
