It’s an old place that’s been renovated, and the units are individually owned and rented these days. Mountain peak properties has rooms to rent. There’s a stocked pond, and coffee and pastries on site. 💕

We arrived around 1 a.m. with two kids in freezing weather and couldn’t find our cabin. Nobody had told us it was upstairs on high Street, so we were searching along the main road shown on the maps. There’s no office to go to for help, and it took about 30 minutes before someone finally replied. We also got the wrong passcode for the cabin. The heater broke the first night, though it was fixed the next morning. We couldn’t use the oven either, because turning it on set off the fire alarm. It takes a long time to get help with problems, which made the whole arrival really frustrating.

Red River is a cool little ski town, and we’re looking forward to coming back to Pioneer Lodge. My fiance and I had a wonderful stay. The room was very clean, with plenty of linens and toiletries, and check-in and check-out were as smooth as could be. The lodge is perfectly located in town.

The room was so dirty that I couldn’t comfortably sleep or even take a shower. The floor was filthy, the bathroom sink and top of the toilet were gross, and I pulled at least six hairs off the bed. They say there’s no cleaning fee, but it seemed like the room wasn’t cleaned beyond making the bed. I couldn’t tell if the sheets were clean. The online pictures were very misleading. I could only reach the owners by text. They didn’t answer calls, their voicemail was full, and although they texted at first, they stopped replying after I reported the dirt. I thought they might offer to clean better or move us, but instead they said they’d refund us so we could find somewhere better suited to us. That was at 5 p.m. in Red River, with my 3-year-old child. Thankfully it wasn’t peak season and we found another place, but we’d driven seven hours only to be left without lodging because I said the room was dirty. I appreciate the full refund, but I’m very disappointed by the lack of care. They’d rather make guests leave than try to put things right. It’s just bad management.

There’s no service, so bring your own towels and wash rags if you need them. We booked six rooms, but they were overbooked when we arrived, and one family had nowhere to stay despite putting down a deposit months earlier. They said we could avoid the cleanup fee by cleaning the room ourselves, which we did, leaving it spotless. Weeks later, they still charged the fee to our card. This place deserves less than one star. A sleeping bag by the roadside would rate higher. July 2023.
