Quality Inn & Suites Red Wing

The room on the other side was better, but cost more. I would have paid for an upgrade, yet they charged me for an entire extra night because I hadn’t switched rooms in the morning. After work, I got back at 8 PM and asked to move to that darker side. The man at reception said I could only change rooms in the morning, even though many rooms were available. They made me sit in the corridor on my bag and only handed over the key after I booked the new room on my computer. I’d opted out of cleaning, so there were no extra costs for them. They blamed the manager, who wasn’t at the hotel. The bright parking lot lights came through the sides of curtains that didn’t cover the windows, and I couldn’t sleep. The old king bed was noisy and uncomfortable, and the heating AC was so loud I had to turn it off at night, then got too cold with snow outside. The hotel was nearly empty. This wasn’t normal hospitality, and they clearly didn’t care to help, even though the curtain problem was theirs. A rip-off place. Don’t go.

Everyone on staff was friendly, and the town was gracious too. We spent six days here while my husband played with the All American Alumni Band, formerly known as McDonald’s All American High School Band. The room was roomy and clean, with great beds and a clean restroom. They also have a washer and dryer, though that amenity isn’t listed on the website. I’d definitely stay again if I’m in the area.

The hotel has had a recent renovation, and I liked the changes. Check-in was easy, and the staff were very friendly. I had them replace a moldy, dirty shower curtain, and they brought up a new one without fuss. I also had to ask them to wipe down all the surfaces because it was clear they hadn’t been cleaned. It’s a shame, and they were friendly about it, but housekeeping needs better inspection afterward. The bed was clean, the hotel smelled fresh, and the balcony and lobby newspaper were nice extras. I wasn’t acknowledged as a diamond member, which may seem minor, but it matters when you spend a lot of time in hotels and stick with one chain. I’d stay again.

Friendly staff and a clean, though old, room. The continental breakfast was standard. Having a balcony is an unusual touch, and it was nice to get some morning air. Downtown Red Wing is very close.
