The room itself was nice, the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was great. The staff were friendly, and the hotel has a really cool feel. Still, the whole reason my husband and I booked a suite for my birthday was to get a river view for a quick night away. We stayed in “The Queen of the Mississippi,” listed as a river room, but our window looked out at brick buildings instead. Based on our stay, I don’t think it should be advertised as a river view room. It was really disappointing, and we wouldn’t return or recommend it. The photos show what we saw from the window.

The downstairs bar had a nice feel, and the staff were very friendly. We’re planning another trip to Redwing this summer and intend to stay at the St. James again. It’s a great old building, with historic staircases and lovely banisters throughout, plus elevators if you’d rather skip the stairs. The rooms were clean, the beds comfortable, and the hotel has been updated at some point to give it an old-time look. A must if you’re into old buildings and history.

Right in the middle of downtown, so the location is great. The rooms are comfortable and have their own character. Such an interesting hotel, too, with impressive history and some incredible architecture.

We were there for a family wedding, and what made the weekend work was the staff. Shelly was an incredible wedding planner, and Mel and her whole team worked so hard all weekend to make sure everything went well. There are plenty of lovely spots to explore around the hotel, with a stunning range of live plants and lots of history to take in. A wonderful weekend stay.

We spent three nights there while in Red Wing for the Fall Art Festival. The hotel was right across the street, and we could walk to all the venues we wanted to see. It’s a historic place, and the restaurant was good, with a different menu and some unique dishes.
