Super 8 by Wyndham Red Wing

The rooms were clean and it was quiet, and we had a great time. This stay was better than the first place we’d planned to use. One thing at the pool and hot tub really broke my heart, though. A guy threw a little boy’s toy in the garbage while the boy was playing with the kids. Then he told him not to spray him with the squirt guns and said he’d break them in half if he did.

We stayed for one night on a road trip two years ago and thought the place was decent for the price, but we won’t be back. A few loud groups arrived late, so it didn’t feel especially safe or restful. There were also broken down cars in the lot, including a junk-filled truck with a flat tire and another vehicle being worked on. The room needed repairs, with holes in the wall and loose bathroom fixtures, and it was kind of dirty: the floors needed mopping, the lampshade had water stains and what looked like a kid’s marker drawing, and the towels were small, frayed, and threadbare. The washcloth and hand towel looked used and were unfolded when we got there. The many pillows were hard and lumpy. Breakfast didn’t offer much, so we ate at a gas station instead. The side entrance smelled strongly of incense or air freshener, but not in a good way. The front desk smelled of cigarettes, even though I confirmed our room was non-smoking and was told the whole hotel was non-smoking. I’d pay another $30 or $50 to stay somewhere else.

The hot tub and pool were wonderful and well kept, and there are nice walking paths just outside the motels for taking the dog out. It’s pet friendly for a reasonable fee, too. Our room was very clean, and the bed was comfortable. Some areas have been updated while others look a bit dated, but for the price it’s good. The door to our first room didn’t lock properly, but they moved us to another room right away.

We couldn’t travel because the road conditions were unsafe, but they refused to cancel our reservation. We spent an entire day trying to move three appointments around so we could still make the trip another day and avoid losing our money. They weren’t accommodating and didn’t seem to care that it wasn’t safe for us to drive. I wouldn’t give them my money again. Very poor business practice. DO NOT stay here!
