Sonesta Redondo Beach & Marina

The team at Sonesta made the biggest difference. Check-in was quick and smooth, and everyone we met was courteous, professional, and ready to help from the moment we arrived. Kimberly at the front desk deserves special thanks for being friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely focused on making sure we had what we needed. She balanced professionalism with a personal warmth that’s rare to find. The property was spotless and comfortable, with inviting common areas and a clean, relaxing room. Everything felt well cared for, and the service was consistently welcoming. We travel often and have stayed at many hotels, but the people here really stood out. We left with a very positive impression and would happily return. Highly recommended for a comfortable stay with a team that cares.

The location made a great base for exploring Redondo Beach and the wider Los Angeles coastline, with the airport conveniently close for arrival and departure. We spent time around the marina and beach, just a short walk away, and rented pedal boats, which were affordable and lots of fun. We stayed five nights in February at Sonesta Redondo Beach & Marina in an Ocean View double queen room. From our balcony, the marina and ocean view was stunning. We visited during breeding season and could actually hear humpback whales at night, an unforgettable, magical touch. The hotel is beautiful and well maintained, with a bar and restaurant, fitness center, paid laundry, gift shop, heated outdoor pool, and hot tub. The pool area looked fairly basic, but it was clean and felt safe. We didn’t use it, though it was nice to have the option. There’s no free parking. Self-parking was $40 a night and valet $43. We chose valet for the small price difference, and it made everything seamless and easy, well worth it to us. Every staff member we met was friendly, welcoming, and accommodating, and the service felt premium. You get what you pay for. A few things to keep in mind: the bathroom was a bit dated but very clean. Events and outdoor restaurant seating can get loud in the evenings. It didn’t bother us since we’re usually up late, and the noise was muffled and manageable, but light sleepers might mind. Our room, 5099 on the 5th floor, had an incredible view from the highest level, but was a long walk from the elevator. We joked we were getting our steps in. If mobility is a concern, I’d ask for a room nearer the elevators. We loved our stay and would gladly return.

Being there on the weekend of a 10k-5k race was bad timing for us. The start line was right outside our window on the beach side, and it was ridiculously loud. The resort fee and parking fee were annoying too, adding about $70 to each night. Even so, we had a fantastic experience. The location is amazing, with restaurants, bars, and the Redondo pier an easy walk away. Staff were very friendly, and the beds were comfortable. The bar and bar food restaurant are functional, though not fancy. The fitness center is split into two nice rooms, one for cardio and one for strength training. The pool and hot tub area is very large and impressive. Despite the noisy event, we had a great stay.

My wife booked this as a birthday surprise. We usually choose oceanfront hotels, so I had certain expectations. In room 3001, the ocean view was only partial, which surprised me. She paid around $400, but I later saw similar partial-view rooms listed for about $258+. Why was this room priced so high? The pool area had a much better ocean view, and we would have chosen differently if we’d known. I could tell my wife was disappointed, but I didn’t want to upset her since this was her gift. We called the front desk 4-5 times from the room to ask about switching, with no answer. Eventually we decided not to spend more time on it and stayed. There was also construction right in front of our balcony, with heavy machinery, constant noise, and road work that ruined the atmosphere. The one slight positive was that the hotel is about a 15-minute walk to the pier. We had dinner, came back, and will leave in the morning. Unfortunately, we won’t return or recommend it.
