Best Western Plus Renton Inn

The breakfast lady is always amazing, and the cleaning crew does a great job. My wife and I usually come twice a year to visit our son and his family, and the place itself is nice. Genesis was sweet when she checked us in, but getting an extra blanket was a hassle. The night staff member said they didn't have any, while loudly watching something on his phone and with a noisy work computer. When we asked again early in the morning, he just repeated that he had already told us there were none. We called later and someone sent one over without any trouble.

After waiting three hours for police to arrive, and getting no useful help from customer service, I'm done with Best Western. I called them to ask how to use a coupon, and hotel staff called the police. I'd already seen recent reviews describing poor service, dirty beds with hair and blood, bed bugs, and roaches. In this case, reading those complaints helped me avoid staying there. I've stayed at Best Western about 15 times in the five months of this year and had just reached Diamond status, planning to start earning bonus points. Now customer service says the hotels are privately owned, so it seems unlikely my complaint will go anywhere. I don't know which hotels have the same owners, and Best Western didn't help me figure it out. I guess I'll find another hotel brand. Customer service seems to have disappeared since Covid.

The internet was a real problem during my nearly weeklong stay. It kept dropping and forcing me to log in again, which made working on my laptop frustrating. Staff also didn't feel welcoming. At check-in, nobody explained breakfast hours or where the amenities were, and the person I asked seemed annoyed. Nobody at the front desk greeted me in the lobby during the whole stay. There was a lot to like about the property, though. The area felt safe, and the location made it easy to reach the freeways, downtown Seattle, the Eastside, or head south. The rooms and building looked modern and updated, and I often saw housekeepers cleaning during the day. The fitness room had about twice as much equipment as other Best Westerns I've visited. Breakfast was a step above the usual, with eggs, sausage, hash browns, biscuits and gravy, waffles, yogurt, fruit, boiled eggs, and a coffee and espresso machine. The laundry room had just one washer and dryer, both looking worn out, but they worked. Good location, cleanliness, and amenities, but the spotty Wi-Fi and chilly service kept the stay from being five stars.

After a car accident in Phoenix delayed us by a day, we called our three hotels to cancel and reschedule. The BW in Kingman and My Place in Idaho Falls were understanding and waived the charges. BW Renton said we needed 72 hours' notice and that we would be charged. We booked for the next day, expecting to show the accident report and have the fee reversed, but at checkout we found we'd been charged for a no-show. We asked for the manager, but she wasn't there. We returned the following day as instructed, and she still wasn't available. We were told she wouldn't refund the money. We had booked weeks ahead while traveling from Tucson to Seattle and then home to Alaska. We've been rewards members for years and usually stay here when passing through Seattle because of the location. The rooms have been okay, but we won't stay at this hotel again and will rethink other Best Western stays too.
