Fountain View Motel

The mattresses were the worst part, miserable and long overdue for replacement. You're selling a bed, so at least provide a decent one. The labels on those old mattresses say it all. I was there for business and had booked ahead because this rural motel in a tiny town was the end of my route at 2 a.m. The staff were friendly and left a light on and my door unlocked. At $67 it was economical, but the place looked untouched since the 1960s. The worn red carpet was one to keep socks on, the plank walls and dirty phones were unpleasant, and the old chairs outside the rooms needed repairs. That didn't feel quaint, just neglected. The cars in the lot looked like other guests' vehicles until we left the next morning and saw there were no plates. They were junk cars lined up in front of the rooms. It looked trashy.

The room smelled musty, the air conditioner shook it, and there were cobwebs everywhere. There was no hot water, no outlets, and the mattress springs were awful. The TV picture was so fuzzy it was like watching without my glasses. Maybe the staff were friendly, and the location was very close to our son, but I'd absolutely never stay here again for that price. It's completely outdated.

We came to visit the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown and stayed here. It's a quaint place with friendly staff and cats, and the bed was nice, though there wasn't anything fancy about it. The website gave the impression that swimming was nearby, but the closest public beach wasn't within walking distance and was closed when we visited in August 2018. You can't swim in the pond with the fountain.

We only needed somewhere to sleep, so it worked for the purpose of our stay. The beds weren't very comfortable, and the place is dated and needs remodeling, especially the bathroom. The TV was fuzzy and wasn't a flat screen, so it should be replaced. I'd probably choose somewhere else next time.
