We were well placed in rooms close together, and the front desk was accommodating. We had two rooms for five people in a newly renovated fifth-floor room area at the Residence Inn. The location is great, the facility is nice, and we used the decent fitness room. The rooms are spacious, with a small kitchenette that has an electric stovetop, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, dishes, and silverware. The kitchen seating for two gave the place an Airbnb feel. But each room has only one king bed and one pullout sofa, so a bigger family may struggle to fit comfortably. The pillows were lumpy and uncomfortable, and breakfast was unimpressive, without basics like cereal or bananas. The person who checked us in said Saturday breakfast ended at 9 a.m., so we woke everyone and came down at 8:30. On weekends it actually ran until 10. The staff were otherwise friendly and very accommodating.

We had a great stay overall, and the Residence Inn is spotless, with friendly, responsive staff and a hard-to-beat location. I really wanted to give it five stars, but a couple of things need attention. We had no hot water. Engineering came and said it was fixed, but it wasn't. They offered to move us, and that room had no hot water either. Ray, a wonderful staff member, came back and got it working, but we'd already decided to take cold showers because we were short on time. The next morning it was out again; Ray fixed it before we came back to get cleaned up. Thank you, Ray. Valet parking was a mess. It was disorganized and understaffed, and our car smelled like pot, from the garage or more likely the morning valet driver. We requested the car an hour ahead through the app but still waited 30 minutes in person. We could see the valet station from our window and knew the app wasn't working. I'd plan to show up and wait there to get your car, or pay the extra $20 a night to park across the street and keep control of your car.

I've stayed here twice now. There were some problems with valet parking, but every staff member was ready to pitch in and help however they could. Flavio at the bar and food service was amazing, upbeat, and helpful with our order and the valet situation. I'll probably stay here whenever I'm in the Richmond area. Thanks for making the visit so enjoyable.

Cliff the valet was a joy, and Dominique and Flavio were amazing too. The staff were the best part of my stay. My room wasn't ready when I arrived at 7 p.m., so they put me in a smaller one. It was meant to be refreshed every other day, but that never happened. They're redoing all the rooms, and they need it. I wish there were dining on site. The pub across the street isn't great.

For a downtown hotel, this was a great stay. The newly renovated property was very clean, with staff members cleaning all around, and my room was quiet. My one suggestion for management: the king bed has a charging station on only one side. On the other side, you have to move the nightstand just to find an outlet. I shouldn't have to move furniture to plug in my phone these days. Thanks for a great stay.
