Woodbound Inn

The buffet was good, but it costs quite a lot. We may have arrived a bit late, since the food seemed close to the end of its serving time. At that price, non-alcoholic drinks should definitely be included.

We checked out after one night even though we had booked two. Neither of us slept: the bed felt more like a trampoline than a mattress, and it was a full, not a queen. The room itself was tiny, dingy, and bare, and I didn't see any hotel staff the whole time, not even at the front desk. Charging $250 a night for that is outrageous.

We used to really enjoy this place, which made the steady decline especially disappointing. The food took forever even with an almost empty dining room. Rolls and one tiny dab of butter each were all we had for the first ten minutes of that long wait. When it arrived, the steak tips were chewy, the mashed potatoes cold and dry, and the fish and chips had horrible batter. They were out of several menu items, though everyone found something they thought they'd like. The cocktail list didn't help. My Dirty Dutchman was the only remotely reasonable choice, but it had so much dry vermouth it was almost undrinkable. The blue cheese stuffed olives were good, at least. Grenadine in a Manhattan is shameful, and the margarita's Jose Cuervo OR tequila choice was refreshing, but why put Jose Cuervo in a margarita at all? They kindly offered free desserts, but I couldn't stand sitting in the uncomfortable chair any longer, so we passed. A complimentary gift card came next, but I wouldn't return even if they paid me, so we left it on the table.

We had Easter Brunch, and it was terrific as always. This is the best Inn around!
