Shelton Motel

The place smelled old and musty, with old bedspreads and dingy towels and washcloths. There were bugs painted over on the wall and roach traps in the cabinets instead of the cute little saucers and dishes. We couldn’t stay. We spoke to the owner, but he wouldn’t refund us, and we still wouldn’t stay there.

We took a chance and rented a room despite all the wild reviews, and honestly it wasn’t bad. It was clean, with no roaches or mold, and had a bed, microwave, TV, cable, refrigerator/freezer, stand-up shower, and a decent-sized table. There were a couple of cigarette burns in the comforter, but that wasn’t a big deal. We came to sleep, not hang out or live there, so for the price compared with other places, it’s a no-brainer.

My husband noticed how dirty the room was on our first night. It smelled musty, with a dead roach in the desk drawer and a live one in the microwave. The bathroom was disgusting, the bedding hadn’t been washed, and the pillowcases had blood stains. The floor hadn’t been mopped, so I had to clean it with my own supplies. My daughter and I were bitten by bed bugs coming through both headboards during the five nights we stayed. We’d paid in advance and never got a refund. Stay at your own risk.

The rooms were tiny and crowded, with old furniture, filthy rugs, and orange and yellow walls that made me think of McDonald’s. There were cockroaches and mice jumping on the beds, dresser, and refrigerator, and definitely bed bugs too. It was a dirty, nasty place, and the owners were rude. Their English wasn’t very good. One of the worst places I’ve stayed in a long, long time. I’d suggest going anywhere else.
