Paintbrush Motel

Even though I’d booked and paid, they said the place was full when I arrived. The front desk person spoke little English and put someone else on the phone. That person could see my payment and said I’d get a refund. Two weeks later, it still hasn’t come through, so I’ve had to dispute the charge with my bank.

There were sunflower seeds behind the toilet, cigarette butts under the bed, and small spots of blood on the sheets. My friends and I found so many unhygienic things in the room, including an exposed wall panel. It clearly hadn’t been cleaned, and the whole place felt awful. Bad atmosphere and terrible room cleaning. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, whether with family, friends, a partner, on an academic trip, or alone. Especially not alone.

The soaps and shower toiletries were plentiful and neatly arranged, but I couldn’t shower because the towels and washcloths were so disgusting. Some were stained with makeup or shoe polish, and others had turned blackish gray. Only two towel items were anywhere close to white. I had to dry my hands with tissues, and the old A/C unit or its bad filter made the air quality poor.

I booked through Travelocity and the listing was completely misleading. They charged me twice, and getting the refund took two weeks, several calls, and a couple of visits. The TV didn’t work, the A/C was frizzy, and there was a strange smell. No thanks.
