Quality Inn Tanglewood

I'm a healthcare worker at a local hospital and had to work through the weekend. Before booking, I called twice and asked two different workers whether the lot and the road in front would be plowed. Both said yes. Neither was cleared. I was stuck for 20 minutes and had to park beside the hotel so I could get out. The road was awful, and I slid sideways going up and down it. I stayed from Saturday to Tuesday, and the lot and road weren't touched the whole time. The rooms aren't soundproof. Line workers next door were up all night, and we could hear their whole conversations. My mom, who works night shifts at the hospital, could hear housekeeping going up and down the hall all day, even though we had signs on the door asking for quiet and no disturbance. The room wasn't cleaned well either. We stripped the beds and were glad we'd brought our own linens because theirs were stained. It looked like the room had just been tidied quickly before being booked. I booked for $220, with no refundable fees mentioned in the listing or invoice. On the morning of check-in I was charged $75. At the hotel they charged the $220, then told me I owed another $100 refundable fee before I could check in. The desk said the $75 charge was because the hotel was so booked. When I asked why it couldn't be applied to the $100 fee, they said it was already being refunded. I was charged almost $400 at check-in without warning. They gave me a receipt for the $220 room charge, but said they don't issue receipts for refundable charges. I still haven't been refunded and won't stay here again. Be aware you might get charged almost $200 extra.

The room was nicely renovated and good quality. When I called to book during a snow and ice storm, this was one of the places that actually answered the phone. The front desk staff were friendly, and breakfast was what you'd expect, but I appreciated it. The waffle iron was cool.

The room was spotless and smelled wonderful, and breakfast had plenty of everything we needed. The desk clerk went out of the way to help with our travel needs and make sure we'd be happy with the room. Thanks for making our last night in Virginia the best of our vacation.

I paid under $70 for a Sunday night in mid-October, booked through hotels.com, and found it great value. Check-in around 5:30 p.m. was quick and easy. After hiking at New River Gorge National Park, I wanted to refill my bottles, and the staff kindly set up the breakfast juice dispenser for me. My ground-floor room faced Frontage Rd, with parking right outside. It was spacious and clean. I got to breakfast around 6:30 a.m.; there were plenty of good choices, including hot eggs and sausages, juice, cereal, waffles, fruit, and bread. The 611 steak company next door has a fabulous, cheap buffet, so check it out. I also liked the setup, with a shared lounge, a gym beside it, and a computer for guests.
