Roche Harbor Resort

Friday Harbor is a beautiful 20-25 minute drive away, with plenty more restaurants and just about anything else you might need. The route itself is worth taking for a better feel for San Juan Island. Back at Roche Harbor, the grounds are gorgeous and meticulously kept year-round, especially colorful in spring and mid-summer. Its history is fascinating, the location is hard to beat, and the restaurants and small store cover the basics. It's probably one of Washington's most idyllic resorts. Since it's a popular wedding spot, things can get busy from May to October, so plan ahead and make reservations. Just go visit.

The marina view, friendly staff, and coffee and donuts in the lobby made the Hotel de Haro feel so welcoming. We slept well, and at night the lights gave the beautifully kept grounds a movie-like feel. We stayed Friday night for a wedding, in a room with a view that cost about $200, which felt very reasonable. The communication before arrival was great, with texts, emails, and even a call about our reservation. There were a few inconveniences. The room floor sloped noticeably, so it was hard to set up our infant's pack and play safely. The shared bathroom was fine, especially since we had our own sink and mirror, but neither our sink nor the shared one drained well. The walls were thin, too. Still, it was a charming, memorable stay.

The McMillin Suite was spacious and comfortable, with beautiful decor and stunning views. We had an amazing three-night stay and will definitely be back.

We stayed in one of the condos, where noise carries easily. The upstairs neighbors clomped around a lot. At over $400 a night, the 100% polyester sheets were uncomfortable and felt like something from a cheap roadside motel. Checkout is 11 am, which makes no sense at those prices.
