Red Roof Inn Detroit-Rochester Hills/Auburn Hills

It's a cozy little place, and the staff are super friendly and understanding. Both rooms we stayed in had dirty wash rags. One looked like it had been used to wipe dust, and the first room also had a stained blanket. I told the front desk and got fresh towels, but still.

The room wasn't terrible except for a stain on the sheets that looked like blood. What made the place disgusting was the huge amount of dog feces on the sidewalk and every accessible path through the snow. It's hard to believe cleaners and other staff walked past all that without taking care of it. The amount was insane. We often stay at Red Roof hotels while traveling and thought this would be one of the better ones. Wrong. I only needed somewhere to sleep for a couple of hours, or I would've asked for my money back. If you arrive at night, expect to step in dog poop.

Vanessa and Traci were the nicest hotel workers I've ever met. The staff made us feel like family, with warm, attentive service that made the stay memorable. From arrival, I was struck by their hospitality and how willing they were to go above and beyond. The rooms looked recently renovated and were spotless, modern, and thoughtfully designed for comfort. I noticed the cozy bedding and sleek finishes, and it was clear cleanliness and guest satisfaction mattered here. I honestly can't say enough good things. It felt like a home away from home, and I'll definitely be back.

The one good thing was the location. We were coming from Canada after a four-hour drive and just wanted to rest before meeting friends and family, but instead our plans were delayed while we spent about 1.5 hours at reception trying to check in. There was a payment issue. At first, staff blamed Booking.com's side, and the person helping me told me to call Booking and sort it out myself. I spent 30-40 minutes on the phone with Booking.com, but they couldn't fix it. It turned out to be a problem with the property's management system. The staff were cold and unwelcoming throughout. Then we were given a dirty room. Dog hair was all over the floor, bed, and headboard. We'd brought our things in and started unpacking before realizing it hadn't been cleaned. I took a picture of my socks after walking around the room for a few minutes, and they were covered in hair.
