Comfort Inn & Suites West - Medical Center

My first room was a two star experience, but the King Suite they moved me to was much better for my needs. I don’t use a wheelchair, and that suite was more comfortable for my disabilities than the accessible room I’d booked. It had a shower with only about a two inch step and safety bars in useful places by the shower and toilet. A wheelchair wouldn’t fit in that bathroom. The sofa had a pullout bed, and the room was quiet and comfortable. You can watch live TV only, with no casting from your phone. I was in town for surgery and needed shower bars. The accessible 2 Queen Suite was large enough for a wheelchair and had bars, but there was no shower chair in the room. I later learned I could have called the front desk for one. The bathroom had a standard tub, and the room was too hot for me at 75 degrees even though the thermostat was off. There also seemed to be a roof leak that had caused some bathroom damage. The TV was locked to C-SPAN or Disney. Staff came quickly when we called, but they hadn’t set the lock and the default code didn’t work, apparently because the previous guest had locked it. The hotel was nearly full but very quiet, close to the Mayo, Gonda, and Charlton Buildings I needed. Staff understood we were having bad days and were accommodating. They were responsive, kind, and helpful when they moved us across the hall. I’d booked two nights through hotels.com using a gift card for one night and a credit card for the other, which meant making two reservations and checking out and back in on day two. I kept the same room, so it wasn’t too inconvenient. Without the hotels.com gift certificate, I’d have booked directly through Choice Hotels. The entrance had a shovel and luggage cart taking up space in the foyer, but beyond that everything looked clean and new, with a welcoming fireplace by reception. The elevator said it was for guests and staff, which I appreciated, though those signs and the ones inside were poorly printed and tacked up in an unprofessional way.
