Fairfield Inn & Suites Rock Hill

The only five star thing about this Marriott is its location. I arrived to find I couldn't check in because they said I was getting a better room. When it was ready, it turned out to be the room I had reserved, not an upgrade. I'd rather have been told it wasn't ready. After I finally got in, the bathroom clearly hadn't been cleaned. There was hair on the walls and floor, around the mounted soap and shampoo bottles, and by the sink. I'm bald, so it wasn't mine. I waited until the lobby was clear to complain. The staff member said management would be there between 9 and 10 AM the next day, but when I asked for the manager in the morning, I was told managers don't work weekends. So I was lied to twice. The one honest thing I heard was that they'd had problems with the cleaning staff. He also said the upper floor rooms were rarely used and there shouldn't be a problem with my room, then moved me to the 4th floor. If those rooms were available, why did I have to wait for a room at check-in?

The hotel would have been adequate for a night or two if the room smelled fine. It's not outstanding, but could be fine for a short stay. Our room had a sour smell when we arrived. I told the staff the next morning, but after being out all day, we came back to the same smell. They had no other room for us, and the very nice woman at the desk gave us air freshener spray. It helped, but the room never smelled right, and I got the sense this wasn't unusual. I'm loyal to Marriott, and this stay didn't meet the mark. I also think the hotel is understaffed. I had to ask for towels multiple times, and the room was never cleaned. I've submitted a case to Marriott about the smell.

The room was comfy and clean, and breakfast was great. The woman at the desk was sweet and friendly. The pillows weren't great, though, and noise from a car doing donuts outside kept me up from 11pm-2:30am. Definitely not the hotel's fault, but it's worth knowing about the location.

The hotel was clean, and the staff were friendly. I liked the extra space between the front door and the bed, which I think made for a quieter night. I didn't hear doors slamming or people talking in the hallway. The gym is more spacious than most, and there's a nice outdoor area with a grill and a large fire pit.
