La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Rock Hill

My friend, who used to live here, sent us to this La Quinta when we came up during Thanksgiving week to move our son into a new apartment. She was right. The location puts you near shops, parks, and places to eat, and I'd recommend the motel. We needed a recliner or couch where my handicapped husband could sleep, and they gave us a room with a nice chaise he could stretch out on. We also have a service dog, and the front desk staff were kind and helpful. The bed was sooo comfortable, just the right mix of firm and soft. Breakfast was marvelous, even on Thanksgiving morning. The coffee and food stayed stocked, including fruit, yogurt, eggs, sausages, cereal, and waffle batter. The person keeping the area clean did a great job. Housekeeping was just as good all week: everything smelled clean, and they brought extra towels, trash bags, and coffee when I asked. The spacious bathroom looked freshly remodeled, and the shower was wonderful and hot at any hour.

The breakfast area was wonderful, with a good variety. The beds were comfortable, and once we adjusted it, the room temperature was fine for sleeping. The room could've been cleaner. The lower rings around the bathroom sink looked dusty. We also weren't sure the fridge was working. It was plugged in and set to the coldest setting, but still wasn't very cold. My husband had insulin with him, so we made do with a bucket of ice. Fine for a one-night stay.

For the price, it was a clean, comfortable room, and the front desk clerk was friendly and extremely helpful. We did have a few snags: the entry door's battery was dead, the room phone didn't work, and the TV needed two different remotes, one for games and one for channels. The employee came up twice, first to replace the door battery and then to swap the remotes.

After driving four hours, I arrived expecting a reservation from a group block for a volleyball tournament. The desk couldn't find it, even after I showed the confirmation made through the volleyball organization. The front desk person didn't try to sort it out, and no solution was offered. We booked next door at Hilton instead, where they were very helpful about accommodating us. Maybe the employee was having a bad day, but that lack of service means I won't consider this location again.
