Country West Motel

What a disappointment. The room didn’t resemble the “western feel” shown in the website photos, and there was dirt in several places: floor corners, the top edges of the floorboards, and a whole strip of missing flooring outside the bathroom. The bathroom window looked old and gross, and there were lots of scuffed or worn patches of paint. There were no luggage racks, which is tough for older travelers or anyone who doesn’t want clothes and other things on the floor. We had only four hangers to share. Lighting was dim, with just two low-wattage lamps. The bathroom had no towel bars, hand towels, or Kleenex. Its outlet was above the mirror, so high that I had to stand on the toilet to use it. The freezer in the small fridge was so frosted over that it couldn’t be used. Only two of the six to eight pillows were comfortable. Most felt like fluffy lumps. The mattress was okay and the armchair was comfy, but I wouldn’t stay again. Until the place is completely upgraded, I can’t recommend it.

The young woman who checked us in was friendly enough, and the bed was comfortable. Still, the room wasn’t very clean, and the website photos made the place look much nicer than it was. We nearly left after seeing the room and its location beside a sketchy-looking gambling hall. We were tired and hungry, and it was only for one night. I’d go farther down the road toward the interstate and stay somewhere else.

The rooms are always great, with comfortable beds and a TV that works well and has good channels. I love this hotel and the staff I’ve met during my stays. The new woman at the front desk made a rough day so much better when I checked in. She had some trouble with the computer system, but she was friendly and gracious throughout. Sometimes people don’t realize how much they can change someone’s whole day. Thank you.

Beatrice was the one good part of the stay. The service we got from her kept this from being a one-star review. The old motel needs a lot of concrete work, especially the step at the room entrance. There was no security bolt, and the door lock was hard to use. In the bathroom, the floor was dirty, the toilet seat was broken, and the faucet leaked badly at its base. There was no hot water at the sink, no tub stopper, and no spare toilet paper. There was also no bathroom outlet for a blow dryer or curling iron. The only outlet was up by the light, about six feet high.
