La Quinta Inn & Suites By Wyndham Rosemont O'Hare

After more than 24 hours of travel in bad weather, I chose this hotel for its airport location. I only got less than four hours of sleep, and in hindsight I should have stayed at the airport instead. It might have been worth the stop if the room had been warm, but the heater wasn’t working. There was a little space heater already in the room, and I believe staff knew about the problem but didn’t tell me before check-in. If they’d been upfront, I could have considered other options. That felt deceptive. It was below freezing outside in Chicago, and the bathroom was freezing too. The tiny heater barely helped. I called the front desk and got no help. The room looked clean, but the coffee machine was dirty. I needed something hot to warm up. Management should stop hiding this, take responsibility, and issue a refund.

The heater was broken in my first room, so I had to switch, though it wasn’t a big problem. The room was clean, with fresh bedding, and the staff were friendly. WiFi worked well, but breakfast was average and I wish there were coffee in the lobby around the clock. Parking cost $26 a night, and the area felt safe. I’d stay again.

Their website advertises parking for cars and trucks at $20 per night, with other vehicle types needing to contact the hotel for a price. It also says airport parking and car rental are available. But when I checked in, I was quoted different prices from $20 to $100. I have a box truck, and the actual charge was $50 a night. Saying trucks cost $20 and then charging $50 feels deceptive, even with a note that prices may be negotiable. The site also lists free breakfast, WiFi, a gym, business center, airport shuttle, Bright Side Market, and laundry service, plus the usual in-room items like a coffee and tea maker, microwave, mini-fridge, TV, desk, iron, hair dryer, and bath products. Two months have passed since they said they’d correct the parking information, and it’s still there. If this isn’t fraud, what is?

The room was clean enough, but the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were nearly empty. Breakfast was mediocre, though at least it didn’t cost extra. The walls are thin too: people a few doors away sounded like they were hosting an EDM concert. George gave great service and check-in was quick and smooth. The outside of the property can be off-putting, and the parking fee is ridiculous, almost comical. I wouldn’t recommend staying here unless you have to. There are better places for similar prices with better amenities.
