Residence Inn by Marriott Rockford

The hotel felt welcoming, and our rooms were spacious and clean. We were there for an evening with our whole 8U football team before a game, and the team took over the pool and lobby. Wendell and Dionna were fantastic hosts, really attentive and always going out of their way to make sure everyone was comfortable. I’d recommend the hotel as it is, but having a Wendell and Dionna at every place I stay would make every trip better. Give those two a raise.

I felt unwanted and mistreated, and I won't stay here again. I ended up at a Courtyard less than a mile away, where I got the rate from the Marriott App. I’d booked this place because I wanted a kitchen to cook in. At check-in, they said my reservation was tied to a different corporate code, so I’d owe $30 more per night because I didn’t work for that company. I went to the truck to check my booking and came back with the Marriott App showing my own company’s code. The desk attendant and manager then said the codes were the same, but they needed proof I worked for that company. I’ve been a member since 2016 and had 156 nights this year, and no one had asked for proof before. I went back outside in the teens, with snow and ice on the ground, to get my work ID from the trunk. After I showed it, they still said they couldn’t accept the discounted corporate rate booked through the Marriott App and would charge $30 extra per night. Why send me through all that if the answer was going to be the same? I was livid. I said I didn’t want to stay there anymore, and they cancelled my reservation. I was paying to stay there and had tried to meet their requests, but felt played with and mistreated.

The staff were accommodating, but the double suite had several problems. The tiles were cracked, and the bathroom light stopped working before we left. The bed was badly worn, and we couldn’t make out what was on the ceiling. The room and hallways smelled of smoke and weed, and the ice was out in the building.

Garbage hotel. We got kicked out because somebody said our two-year-old lab was aggressive. Half the appliances don’t work, and housekeeping knocking at 7am until you open the door so they can get their tip is insane. I get why this place has two stars.
