The staff member who called a couple of days before our trip made the stay for me. I'd originally booked a smoking room by mistake, then tried to switch to a non-smoking room with a king bed. Only the honeymoon suite was available, which felt like more than I needed, but I booked it. Then a gentleman from the hotel remembered my call and got in touch after a cancellation opened up a cheaper king room. I hadn't asked him to keep an eye out, and he went out of his way to save me money. That's the main reason for my five stars. The facilities themselves are closer to four. It's a clean place to stay, with a pier across the street for fishing. The pool looked very clean and has cool designs on the bottom. The AC kept the room nice and cool, though it was a little noisy, as you'd expect from one of those wall units. Overall, a nice stay.

We had a large king room with a kitchenette, and it was very nice, extremely clean, and had excellent room service. It came with a small microwave, single-use coffee maker, stovetop, and small fridge. There's a guest-only pier directly across from the suites, plus beautiful, well-kept grounds, a large picnic area, and a pool. The staff were very friendly. It's a great choice for a weekend or a full week, and we'll be back for our next Rockport fishing trip.

We had everything we needed for a nice three-day trip, and the room gave us plenty of space since we were out fishing most of the day. I came a few weeks ago for my annual fishing trip with my father, grandfather, two uncles, and two cousins. Surfside has its own pier in a pretty good spot, with other piers to either side. You'll need to drive about a mile in either direction to find a grocery or fuel station.

UPDATE: Hurricane Harvey took this nice little hotel away. The pool has been filled in, and now it's just another empty lot. Old review: Neil at the front desk was extremely helpful and friendly. My room was large, comfortable, and clean, with a great shower, lots of hot water, and plenty of pressure. The location was perfect, close to shopping, dining, the beach, and the aquarium. The pillows were a little flat, but that's an easy fix. The pool was lovely, the grounds well kept, and the fishing pier fantastic. I really enjoyed my stay, and it was a great bargain.

The pool and fishing pier were both very nice, and the owners are pleasant, though they did ask us to switch off the lights and AC after we'd already left the room. The rooms were okay. There's no elevator or breakfast.
