We had a delightful weekend. The rooms were comfortable and clean, and when we had a small shower issue the front desk sorted it out promptly and professionally. There are lots of restaurants nearby and a grocery store, handy when you realize you've forgotten toothpaste. The decor is a little strange, especially the elevators, which look like they came straight from "Metropolis". If that's the biggest complaint, it's a pretty great hotel.
The public areas have plenty of comfortable seating off to the side, and the staff were kind, helpful, and sweet with my little girl. I also loved the unusual open yet tucked-away feel of the place. Most hotels leave me tense until I shut myself in my room, but this one was actually relaxing. There was a conference checking out the night we arrived and 200 UMD students the following night, yet it stayed quiet. My room was very clean, too. I checked it with the UV light on my flashlight and it was pretty darn clean. A big part of the fun was watching my 3 year old daughter wander around, climb the stairs, and watch the elevators. I'd seriously drive from Richmond for another weekend here. It would be great for an overnight stay, a little work, chatting with conference attendees, people watching, or just watching the elevators like my 3 y/o did. I still have no idea how they created that calm atmosphere.
James, the Director of Rooms, was genuinely helpful and professional during my November 8th stay. I hope the company recognizes him. Dinner was less smooth: the restaurant employee seemed unsure how the team member discount worked. I said I was a team member, but the discount didn't look right, and she asked me to write my employee number down, something I've never been asked to do at other properties, where they usually verify it when shown. After checking in, I also tried to add my partner's name through chat, but was told I had to go to the front desk. That felt inconvenient, especially since other locations have handled it differently, and I would have appreciated an explanation. Aside from those issues, the stay was pleasant.
It's so quiet here, you can literally hear a pin drop, and my room was very, very clean as usual. I was glad to see Christina again when I checked in. She always provides impeccable, professional service and really pays attention to what guests need and how comfortable they feel. Every time I visit, this hotel is a 10/10. Definitely recommend.
Twinbrook metro is less than a 6 minute walk away, and there's no shortage of restaurants, grocery stores, or shopping nearby, so the location is ideal for using transit. The hotel feels dated and could use upgrades; inside it reminded me of an old Embassy suites. The rooms were just okay, and the restaurant food was about the same.
