The Rockville Hotel, a Ramada by Wyndham

We only needed the room for under 25 hours after my son’s soccer team made the finals, and saving about $100 made this a reasonable choice for us. Tournament hotel costs add up, and we’re not fussy when we’re trying to keep the price down. I booked through Hotwire. We were hoping to stay nearer the Maryland SoccerPlex than we had the previous two nights, and this place was very convenient for the fields, restaurants, and shops nearby. If you want a cheap stay close to the SoccerPlex with food and shopping easy to reach, it does the job.

We had kids with us, so seeing pit bull dogs loose in the hallway without an owner was especially concerning. They looked well trained, luckily, but it could have become dangerous. We raised the issue and no one seemed to care. My aunt booked us here while her house was being remodeled, and we stayed in town for about a week. The rooms weren’t clean, towels were in short supply, and customer service was rude. Breakfast is one to skip and eat elsewhere. This was easily the worst hotel stay I’ve ever had. If I’d booked it myself and checked the online reviews first, I wouldn’t have stayed.

The staff were friendly, and as a Diamond member I was given an upgrade. The bed also seemed clean. The rest of the room was a different story: mold on the bathroom doors, stains on all the fabric surfaces, dried liquid streaks down the walls, and two bugs. The fridge didn’t work and some bulbs were out, too. This may be the dirtiest hotel I’ve ever come across. It looks like the rooms haven’t been properly cleaned in years. A thorough deep clean could probably make the place fine without a major renovation, but this Ramada needs to get its act together. I wouldn’t recommend staying here and would pick a nearby hotel instead.

Comfortable enough, though a bit dated. I liked the location, the roomy parking all around the building, and being able to enter through the side or back doors with a key card. Just make sure both cards keep working for the whole stay. One towel had cigarette stains, which was disgusting, but I asked the cleaning staff for a replacement. Otherwise, not bad.
