Candlewood Suites Rocky Mount by IHG

David got us checked in quickly and was welcoming and on point with the customer service. My kids and I felt comfortable and welcome here. Our room was really clean and smelled wonderful!

The bathrooms were surprisingly clean, and the sheets and bedding looked clean too, apart from the mattress. The rest of the room was a different story. The couches were dirty, the towels felt used, and there were stains everywhere. The third floor smelled like a fresh cigarette had been lit, and that smell was in the room all night. I couldn’t sleep and woke up with a sore back from the bed. This was supposed to be a king suite, but it needs a serious remodel or at least clean furnishings and some air freshener. I’m scared to imagine what the cheapest room looks like. The place smells terrible, so bring Febreze if you come. Also, warning, the reservation was non-cancelable. I’m not staying here again.

The man at the front desk was very nice and processed a refund. We only spent about an hour and a half in the rooms, but our clothes still smelled afterward. I had my five-year-old son with me and wanted to get out as fast as possible. The first room had a powerful chemical odor, as if it was being used to cover cigarette smoke. We asked to move, but the second room smelled of cigarettes and the third smelled like urine. We left at 8 PM and found a nearby Airbnb, since the other hotels in the area also had horrific reviews. Never again.

The price was probably about right for what you get, and most of the staff were friendly. Still, it felt pretty icky staying there. The room had dried blood drops on the floor, hair all over the shower, and filthy doors and fixtures. Everything you look at seems stained, crusty, or dirty, and the place needs a serious scrub. The elevator also works strangely from the third floor and felt a little sketchy. It did serve the purpose I needed.
