The Sequoia Suite felt cozy and comfortable, and it was clean, with a gas fireplace that kept us warm. Each room has a kitchenette, and there are little tables and chairs on the porches, plus lovely spots around the property to sit and enjoy nature. The cabins are charming and have everything we could imagine needing. In the main house, breakfast includes continental options along with toaster waffles, burritos, and breakfast sandwiches. There’s also a full coffee and tea bar in a pleasant dining space with great views. I’ll recommend this place to everyone I know.
It’s a charming place, but it needs more care to feel hospitable and enjoyable. Once we started using the room, the dirt became hard to miss. Dust flew onto us in bed when we switched on the fan, the shower grout was black with mold, the towels were stained and worn, and the window sills were dirty. There was no soap for the tub and jacuzzi, either. I spilled water by the chair and wiped it up with a used towel, which came away black. The room looked wonderful when we first walked in, and the bed was comfortable, though the pillow wasn’t. The shower had good pressure and plenty of hot water. I won’t get into the “continental breakfast”.
For a hotel style stay near Shaver or China Peak, this may be the best option. The place is very walkable to the center of Shaver, and the rooms are nice and clean. I’ve been to Shaver many times in summer and stayed in rental houses, but this time I wanted somewhere convenient for a couple of nights of skiing at China Peak. Our room had a tidy cabin feel, with no clutter, and the bathroom was surprisingly spacious for a hotel room. We mostly just used the room to sleep, and it worked perfectly for that. The automatic check in and check out made arriving late and leaving early easy. I also spoke with the owner, who was very nice. I’ve seen people criticize the breakfast, but I found the self serve fruit, packaged items, coffee, tea, and cold drinks useful. It’s a small place, and in 2025 I’m not expecting a grandma to come out of the kitchen with a fresh omelette. I’m heading back soon and will definitely stay here again.
Joanne and Greg were wonderful hosts, and their weekend breakfast was delicious. The French toast was the best we’ve ever had. They also lent us a local hiking book and shared lots of ideas for things to do and places to visit. Our room was spacious, and the fireplace was a lovely touch. The bed and breakfast is adorable and close to good restaurants and coffee shops. We had a fantastic stay. Don’t miss the chance to experience this lovely place.
Greg and Joanne were so kind and friendly, and they made delicious breakfasts on the weekend. We really enjoyed our three nights in the Sequoia room, which was beautiful and very comfortable. The place felt warm and homey. We came to see snow around the area and were thrilled by how much was on the ground and all over town. We loved our stay and Shaver Lake’s small town feel. We’ll return in summer and stay at this B&B again. Thank you, Greg and Joanne!
