Holiday Inn Express Rocky Mount Sports Center by IHG

The price was $140 a night, and I didn't feel the quality or service justified it. I've stayed at other Rocky Mount hotels on trips between NJ and FL, and I won't return here. Getting there late was stressful. My reservation said to call if I would arrive after 9pm, but the number on the confirmation didn't work. It took three calls and a runaround to find the right number, and one person even said they couldn't find my reservation confirmation. In the room, one bed was comfortable and the other wasn't. I chose this hotel for the advertised hot breakfast, but the food was disappointing. The bacon was greasy rather than crisp, while the potatoes were oddly crisp but dried out. The muffins weren't labeled; they turned out to be banana nut, which I don't like, and someone with a nut allergy could have had a problem. At 10:15am, before the 11am checkout, housekeeping knocked and tried to come in even though I'd put the “not ready” card on the door. When I checked out, the woman at the desk asked how the stay was. I said it had been challenging, and she only said, “I'm sorry,” without asking what had gone wrong.

The location is good, so I would stay again, and most of the staff were friendly. The woman who checked us in, though, wasn't welcoming and seemed bothered by us. When we asked where to eat nearby, her answer came off as rude. We looked online instead and found The Westridge Grill down the street, where the burgers were great and everyone was really nice. We usually stay at Holiday Inn Express on our Florida road trips.

I've stayed here before and have never had an issue. There are plenty of places to eat nearby, including Outback, Texas Steakhouse, a burger place across the street at the Gateway center, and other restaurants across the bridge. There's a gas station close by too, and the hospital is across the street at the light. Breakfast runs from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., but head down early because they stop restocking around 8:30. The coffee machines have good, fresh coffee throughout the day.

May 23, 2025. We had a pleasant overnight stay here while passing through North Carolina on the way to a wedding in Florida and to see family in Georgia. The room and hotel were nice and clean, and the high-ceilinged entrance and lobby felt open and welcoming.
