La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Detroit Metro Airport

The clean sheets and towels, comfortable bed, and decent breakfast were the good parts, but I wouldn't book here again. The property felt run down, and my allergies started acting up as soon as I entered the room. There was a strong musty smell, peeling paint, and curtains that were dusty and stained. The shower door wouldn't close properly, so water spread across the bathroom floor.

We booked the Park/Sleep/Fly option before our flight, and the program itself worked well. The hotel stay was ridiculous, though, and we didn't feel safe or get any sleep. The lobby reeked of marijuana when we arrived. Just before 2 a.m., guests across the hall started a loud party with music, yelling, slamming doors, and more weed smoke. It went on for over two hours. When I called the front desk, the man sounded like he was with the group and hung up before I could explain. Around 4 a.m., the guests were arguing and screaming profanities, and someone was pushed up against our door. This went on between 2 and 5 a.m., on the first floor where staff could easily hear it. I think a staff member tried to intervene at one point, but was met with more yelling and profanity. I know this kind of thing can happen anywhere, but it felt dismissed and made for an awful experience. This behavior shouldn't be tolerated at those hours.

The shower had great pressure, but the room was very hot because the thermostat didn't work. The common areas looked run down, the beds seemed unmade when we checked in, and there was no soap. The front desk was unpleasant during check-in, and our keys were only programmed for one day, so we had to go back twice to get them working. The second time, I stood waiting while the manager spent several minutes on the phone. After we'd been out for the day, we came back and saw that the front desk manager was smoking inside. We left disappointed and wouldn't return. Read the bad reviews too, they give a better sense of what the experience can be like.

The shuttle made getting to the airport easy. It follows you to your parking spot so you don't have to wait around for one, and the ride to the airport takes about 5-10 minutes. Kristina checked us in and was incredibly friendly and helpful. She answered our questions and explained how to catch the shuttle. Our room was clean and the beds were comfortable, and checkout was quick. They also had muffins, coffee, and juice for our early flight. It was our first stay at La Quinta before flying, and after staying at the hotel directly attached to the airport before, I think we'll choose La Quinta again. I'd recommend it for early morning flights.
