Quality Inn South Bend Near Notre Dame

For a two-star hotel, this was pretty good. The rooms were nice and basic, with a microwave, big fridge, TV, coffee, air conditioning, and a really comfortable bed. There's a mall and stores across from the hotel, plus an Olive Garden next door. It felt a bit in the middle of nowhere and sketchy at night, though the receptionist was kind. She was wearing pajamas and flip flops, which confused me since I work at a hotel too and have to wear a uniform, but hey, haha. They have vending machines and a 24-hour reception, and breakfast looked nice, though we didn't get to try it. I'm from Europe and we're not used to these kinds of hotels, so I got scared thinking of those American movies where people in hostels get murdered. That's on me. I'd come back if I visit my fiancé's family in Mishawaka again.

The staff were extremely nice, but we were so grossed out that we left at 2:00am and went home. The sheets had visible stains, and there were black dots on the pillows. The room was filthy, with crumbs everywhere and a floor that hadn't been cleaned. There was also a strong smell that seemed meant to cover up smoking. I was concerned about safety too, since the windows had no screens and a child could easily fall out. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to my worst enemy.

Do not stay here. People were smoking marijuana throughout the hotel, and empty alcohol bottles were scattered in the hallways and parking lot. When we parked, three guys came up and asked if we wanted to buy weed. It's the worst hotel we've ever stayed at. The owner, AJ, was very rude and didn't understand English at all.

A fine place to sleep if that's all you need. It was quiet, felt safe, and the space was generally clean and comfortable. Staff were very nice, breakfast was decent, it welcomed pets, there were lots of TV channels, and plenty of convenient food options within walking distance. Some issues were easier to ignore: WiFi was down, the bathroom fan didn't work, the sheets had a small ink mark though they looked clean and freshly laundered, the toilet was loose but otherwise sturdy and clean, and the fridge stayed about room temperature even on its coldest setting. Two things I couldn't overlook were wires hanging where a smoke detector should have been, and a hole by a light switch covered with duct tape.
