Red Roof Inn Austin - Round Rock

Having a pet-friendly room sounded great, but arriving early was a mistake. We got there at 11 and needed to let the pets out, only to learn on arrival that check-in didn’t start until 3, four hours later. They should make that clearer so people can plan around their animals’ needs. No help or other options, just “too bad, not our policy.”

The room was clean and tidy apart from a broken toilet seat. I stopped because I was getting sleepy on the road, though the motel is on Austin’s outskirts and a little out of the way. The staff did their job well. I gave it three stars because the elevator was broken, the decor was old and peeling, and the “vending” setup was just cup noodles and candy displayed on the desk.

I checked in and found the room hadn’t been cleaned. I didn’t want to switch rooms, so I went to the front desk, explained the problem, and asked to stay somewhere else and get a refund. He said he could only give me half back, even though the room had been used. Do not stay here.

We were exhausted and sore after a long road trip from NM, and honestly might have let that cloud our judgment. I asked to see a room, and at a glance it looked clean. The building was dated, and the outside wasn’t well maintained. We stayed just to get some sleep, but the King Reg Room was VERY small, with hardly any space to move around. There were serious repairs needed. People were hanging around the parking lot, so we checked our car and found its window set to lock but still sliding back and forth. It was warped and off track, had no screen, and was missing the bolts that keep people from getting in. Light, air, and bugs could get through. My husband fixed it enough that we could lock it and wedge something in to stop it sliding. The A/C unit was falling apart too. By then it was close to midnight, and we were tired and frustrated. We got up super early to get out and head home. We used the rear entrance to take the dog out and carry some things to the car because it was closer to our room. That door was busted up, with nothing to stop people coming and going. On the way to check out, I saw a piece of roof that must have gotten damp at some point, and was broken and exposed. The pool was supposedly under maintenance. The lot and grounds were covered in glass and trash. No breakfast or amenities. Just a horrible experience in every way. We would’ve left, honestly, but we were so tired and sore. A couple of positives: the young man at the desk was polite, the hotel is just off Hwy and close to stores and restaurants, and the bed was comfy. They really need to fix the place up. P.S. My husband waited until we checked out to tell me there were roaches in the bathroom. He had to kill them when he turned on the lights. Ugh, no. We’ve decided to buy a travel trailer. No more hotels!
