Downtown is a great location, and the parking is free. After that, though, things get bad fast. The floor was dirty, the toilet wouldn’t flush, and the towel they gave me was dirty and full of holes. The cleaners had also left behind the dirty towels they used. The TV didn’t work, but I can live with that. I can’t believe the staff left a room like this. Never again. Pay a little more and stay at one of the nearby hotels. This place shouldn’t be operating.

The room was filthy, with hair all over, and the fridge froze everything we had in it. We asked for towels and never got them. One light was already out when we arrived, and the other stopped working during our stay. I called to get it fixed, but nobody showed up. When I went to the front desk at night for help with the towels and lights, there was no one there. The service made me feel like I was a burden. I’ve seen plenty of similar reviews, and I won’t stay here again.

The staff were courteous, and parking was free. The price was good, too, though the room could have been cleaner. When we opened the comforter at bedtime, we found long hairs on the sheet. The location worked well for us, close to Old Sacramento and just a few minutes on foot from the state Capitol. We could faintly hear cars passing over the nearby freeway bridge, at least from our room.

The room smelled really bad. It seemed like it had just been painted with oil-based paint and hadn't had time to air out, and there was another smell we didn't want to think too much about. The bathroom in the lobby also had water all over the floor for no clear reason. Breakfast was laughable: bad coffee, no cream, and just bagels and bread with nothing to put on them. The room itself was gross, with a black sock and feet, plus a burn hole in the blanket. The door had to be slammed to open or close it. The staff were unfriendly and distracted by their personal lives on their phones. Checking me in seemed to annoy them. The morning before checkout, after we got back from a walk, the room was already being cleaned as if we had checked out, and the cleaner actually argued with me. The location in Old Town was excellent, though. I start my ratings at five stars and work my way down, and I ended up at one. A quick Google search told me the rooms had been used as a homeless shelter in 2024, which might explain the fresh paint and dented doors. Maybe it should go back to that status with the way it's being run. If the staff cared even a little about their jobs, this place could turn things around.

The problems just kept piling up during our three-day stay. The elevator never worked, and even though I mentioned my mobility issues, we were given a second-floor room. There was no housekeeping, no fresh towels, and no coffee. The alarm went off at 6:30 a.m. The so-called continental breakfast was a frozen croissant or chocolate muffin, with no butter, though there was plenty of syrup and no pancakes. Coffee wasn't available 24/7 as advertised. I brought my daughter to Old Town for her birthday, but the TV didn't work, and neither did the TVs for any guests we spoke with. The front desk blamed the wind and rain. When it finally came on, despite the clear weather shown in the photo, we only got the weather channel. This was the worst place I've ever stayed. Don't waste your time or money.
