Welcome Inn on Colorado Blvd

The cigarette smell in our room was really strong when we checked in, so I asked for another one. They said everything was sold out, but changed us from a two-bed room to one bed. The replacement smelled just as bad. We went back and asked them to switch it back, and they offered to spray fragrance instead. I thought, wow, top-level service 😅, but figured we'd try it. At first it smelled nice, but the cigarette odor was still there. I turned on the AC, opened the windows, and we went to the observatory. When we came back, the smell had returned. Is it really so hard to air out rooms and deal with this after guests check out while changing the sheets? There are some good points: parking is cheap at $5 a night, right at the hotel, though it's not included in the room price. There's also a pool. The check-in technology is pretty cool and unusual: someone appears on a TV screen to explain things, and you submit your documents and get your key at a kiosk. I liked that part. If they got the cigarette smell out of the rooms and opened the windows, this could easily be a four-star stay.

The place looked convenient, with plenty of nearby spots to eat and relax, but staying there felt like punishment. Nobody was physically at reception, just a video kiosk with someone answering from who knows where. I checked in around 6 after booking through a third party, and they charged me for the room and parking. Within five minutes of getting to the room, my family found a dying cockroach, and there were bed bugs too. It was cheap, so I expected some issues, but not that. The kiosk said the room had just been cleaned and offered to move us. If a freshly cleaned room has bugs crawling around the pillows, I have to think the whole place is infested. This isn't okay.

I accidentally left my AirPods in the room after checkout. The room was cleaned, and they disappeared, even though nobody else had stayed there. I called several times, but the hotel said they didn't have them and refused to take responsibility. The location showed the AirPods stayed at the hotel for days, then moved to a private residence and back. Terrible service.

Kai was understanding and really helpful, and check-in was quick. Everything was clean and working. Just keep in mind parking costs extra and there's a $100 damage deposit.
