Northgate Inn Saginaw

I was here for four weeks, and this place isn't a good choice for an extended stay. The rooms are dated but clean, though there are soft spots in the floor. Wi-Fi was terrible and kept cutting out. They only service the room once a week, and then your key card stops working, so you have to go to the front desk to fix it. The rates also seemed to depend on the person. Two other people and I were charged different amounts. The AC units are on breakers, and they switch them off while you're at work. If your day off falls at an irregular time, the AC gets turned off too, and you have to go to the front desk. I was also without water for two days. There was no compensation, just the owner complaining about how much it cost to get fixed.

After a 600-mile drive, the front desk gentlemen were helpful when I arrived at 10:45pm. Quality Inn down the road had messed up my reservation and moved my stay to tomorrow instead of the night I'd booked online. This room wasn't great, but it wasn't the worst either, so three stars feels about right. It was clean and smelled clean, with outdated bedding and what looked like freshly painted interiors.

The area is nice and the staff seemed okay, but at $70-$75 a night, this room was a poor deal. I'd say it was worth no more than $40. It was winter, and the heater took four hours to warm the whole room, so we were cold. There was lots of hair in the tub, a horrible ring in the toilet, and it was filthy behind the seat. The bathroom door was poorly installed and wouldn't close properly. Shower pressure wasn't ideal either. It wasn't the worst place I've stayed, and the TV was small but had good cable channels. The microwave was outdated and had a timer knob. The fridge was clean, but I was only there one night and didn't find out if it worked. I'd consider coming back, but with the price and room quality, it would probably be my last choice.

For $60 a night, I thought this was a good deal, and I'd stay here again if I needed an affordable room in Saginaw. I was in room 122. Everything I checked was clean: microwave, fridge, sink, toilet, tub, floors, and bed. The air smelled fresh, without cigarette smoke or other bad odors, and I saw no mold or wall damage. There were no bed bugs, fleas, roaches, or other harmful bugs. A few harmless lightning bugs flew around at night, and I saw one harmless spider in the bathroom before I checked out. The TV worked, but the old phone didn't, which probably won't matter to most people using cell phones. The AC worked, though its power button was missing, so I had to use something like a key or pen to press the red on/off button. The toilet took a long time to refill, so if someone used it again right away, it wouldn't flush. Still, I highly recommend the place for an affordable stay.
