Viking Jr. Motel

I won’t book here again. I forgot to take my receipt, and when my company asked me for it, I called the hotel. The woman said to call back in two hours because she was away from the hotel. I tried several times after that, but nobody answered or called back. If they couldn’t help, they could have just said so instead of leaving me waiting.

The photos on Expedia were very misleading. As we drove up, the hotel looked run down, with an unkempt lawn, junk around, and big garbage cans outside the rooms. People were sitting in folding chairs smoking outside rooms, and I assumed some guests lived there. I went to the office to say we weren’t staying. The place was filthy, and the moment I opened the door, it smelled like urine. We’d booked through Expedia, so we lost $89, but lesson learned. I’m not picky, but this place is a huge no.

The bathroom could have been cleaned more often and more thoroughly. I suspect the young family living in one wing might explain some of the messy exterior, though it wasn’t too bad. Noise from nearby rooms and outside was about like most places I’ve stayed, even pricier ones. If you need an inexpensive place in a pinch, Viking Jr is serviceable. My room was better than a lot of the booking photos led me to expect.

I stayed last summer, and the owners were extremely kind and courteous. They were having a cookout, and my father and I got to join in for some authentic Mexican food. We chatted and swapped stories, and it turned into a lovely summer memory with my dad. It took me a while to find a chair to write this review, but for the price, this was about as good a stay as you could ask for. It’s not a resort, just a solid place to sleep and hang your hat.
