The Baines House’s history was fascinating, and we had a great time getting to know Salado over the weekend. Restaurants, shops, and the local brewery were all an easy walk away. We stayed in the Cattle Baron's suite with friends, and the comfortable, cute rooms opened onto a private balcony overlooking the grounds. A glass of wine out there in the evening was perfect. We’ll definitely come back.

Salado kept us busy, from the artisan stores and ceramics studios to a glass blowing shop where we could watch them work. There were also cute shops, restaurants, breweries, and plenty of wine to choose from. At Baines House, our group was easily accommodated, and the rooms had a really good local roasted coffee blend. The buildings are unusual and charming, with some Texas history and a little chapel on the property. We had a great stay, and I’d highly recommend it.

The historical library was a fun surprise, with lots of interesting Texas history connected to the Lyndon Baines Johnson family. We stayed in Seaberry Cottage, and the grandkids especially loved the private outdoor bathtub. The cottages feel distinctive and welcoming, and ours was just right for a weekend. Shops and several restaurants were an easy walk from the property.

We felt at home as soon as we stepped into Seaberry Cottage. Sheryl had filled it with thoughtful, charming details, and the antique bed was both beautiful and comfortable. The small bathroom was decorated nicely, while the fireplace and little day bed made the room cozy for reading or a nap. There’s also a sunken outdoor tub and a quiet patio, though it was too cold for us to use the tub. Upstairs, we spent time chatting over a drink in the kitchen area. It has seating for five, a small table, fridge, coffee pot, toaster oven, and sink, with plenty of supplies if you want to make a whole meal. In the morning we had a cheese omelet with their homemade salsa, which you shouldn’t miss, followed by Rod’s take on bananas foster for breakfast dessert. Rod and Sheryl let us check in early at 11:30 since no one else was in the room. Sheryl walked us through the cottage and its features while Rod turned on the water. They later talked with us about the property, Salado, and stories from their lives. Sheryl offered to show us the other rooms, each decorated around its own theme. The website photos don’t do them justice. There are enough lodging options for a family to take the whole Baines House or for couples to stay in adjoining cottages. We were the only guests there that weekend, but were treated warmly and felt like neighbors. Everything in the room worked, and Sheryl explained how to reach them at their residence if we needed anything. I’d recommend Baines House to anyone wanting a warm place in Salado, whether traveling with family or friends or looking for a private stay.

Texas History Days brought us to Salado, and we had a lovely time at the Baines House Inn. Our Cattle Baron's Suite was well cared for and had lots of interesting historical details and visual touches. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony in the evenings. In town, we shopped and had dinner by the creek at Alexander’s Distillery, where the food was excellent. We also ended up sharing dinner with new friends, Kim and Kelly. There’s more we wanted to do in this quaint town, so we’ll be back.
