The Hawthorne was within walking distance of everything we wanted to see, including Essex Street and downtown, and I’d stay again. My friends and I were there for a long weekend. We had a double room with two bathrooms, which was handy with everyone getting ready at the same time in the morning. It was my birthday weekend, and someone had sent flowers and gifts to the room. Staff had set them up so they were already there at check-in. Everyone was wonderful and friendly.

We spent our first Valentine’s Day together at the Hawthorne Hotel in Salem this weekend, and it felt special from the moment we arrived. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and helpful, and the location made it easy to explore Salem on foot. The historic layout, architecture, and artwork give the place real character. It has a cozy, mysterious atmosphere and captures Salem’s classic, slightly spooky charm without feeling gimmicky. We had two small moments that seemed a little suspicious in a paranormal way, which just made the trip more fun and gave us a story to tell. It was a fantastic Valentine’s weekend, and we’d absolutely come back.

We went in January 2026 during the off-season, and had a wonderful time from start to finish. My friend and I were greeted by polite, amazing staff at check-in, and they stayed that way throughout our trip. The hotel was lively and clean, with plenty of amenities that fit its 'Historic' hotel brand. The restaurant was wonderful, especially the tavern. Ending a busy day in the area with delicious bread pudding and a pint of Guinness was hard to beat.

I run Hager Photography and had the pleasure of photographing a wedding at The Hawthorne Hotel this summer. What a perfect venue, classy with kind of spooky vibes. The staff and facilities were top-notch, and there were ladies in witch hats everywhere. The couple had a tarot reader at cocktail hour. I loved every second at The Hawthorne and can’t wait to return.

The Hawthorne Hotel’s old Salem character gave us beautiful settings for wedding photos, from the ballroom and cozy lobby to the park nearby. I photographed a wedding there in February 2024, and the staff kept everything organized, welcoming, and running smoothly.
