Ranch Motel

We’d reserved a room, but when we arrived they didn’t know who we were or why we were there. They gave us a room, and it was disgusting: hair in the bed, huge stains on the sheets, crusty stuff stuck to the outer blanket, thick dust everywhere, and an unclean bathroom with more hair and what looked like dog food on the floor. The second room they offered was much the same. We ended up driving the two hours home and cutting our trip short. Our Memorial Day weekend was completely ruined. Their way of doing business is also a big red flag. Instead of simply swiping our card and charging us, they photocopied my wife’s and my driver’s licenses and credit card.

The people managing the place were very rude. They talked to me like I was beneath them, then said I had an attitude. I don’t believe they’re honest, either: the rate quoted on the phone wasn’t what they charged at the property. There was no pool, and breakfast was just cereal. The TV channel selection was horrible. 2/10, don’t recommend.

We’re traveling the backroads and small towns on a road trip and have stayed in a lot of places. This is one of the best by far. It checks all the boxes: great location, a comfortable and nicely appointed room, and a friendly owner and staff. Very, very nice, clean, and immaculately maintained inside and out. Independently owned. Highly recommend!

The front desk staff were nice, and being right beside the highway was convenient. That’s about where the good parts stopped. The room was tiny, dirty, and smelled musty, with what looked like a whole colony of flies that I had to get rid of before I could rest. We only stayed one night on the way farther south. The Ranch Motel brought back childhood memories of the ultra-cheap places my parents, or maybe just mine, used to book. I’ll give it that. Picture a sketchy-motel scene from a movie, then lower the bar a little more. I only wish I’d taken photos, but I was too busy dealing with the flies.
