The Hotel Salem

The food was terrific. I had breakfast, lunch, and dinner there, and enjoyed all of it. The Salem Hotel’s location is right in the heart of Salem, close to shops, eateries, and entertainment. I’ve stayed at a few places in town, and this is by far my favorite so far. I spent a staycation weekend here and loved how much the staff thought of, and how kind and helpful they were with every request. It felt like a home away from home, with a cute, clean, quiet room. The water stations on the floors were handy, and we could bring food and drinks to the room or order room delivery. The lounge was nicely decorated, cool and colorful.

Breakfast was fresh, filling, and well worth it, and we slept right through on a quiet street without any outside noise. The room was spotless and peaceful, with that welcome feeling that everything has been taken care of. Check-in was already done by the time we’d looked around, quick and painless, and the staff were warm but professional. For the price, the comfort and service are a standout deal. I’d book here again without hesitation.

The location is very convenient, but I wouldn’t recommend this hotel and wouldn’t choose it again. My boyfriend and I stayed two nights and three days, and the thin walls and floors were the biggest problem. We could hear people walking past our door, neighbors flushing and using a blow dryer, and people moving around upstairs. It made relaxing and sleeping difficult. The bathroom had several annoyances: our barn door was extremely heavy, the shower took ages to heat up, there were no shelves for toiletries, and the door didn’t keep the water in very well. The sink had very low pressure, and the shared microwave outside the room was broken during our stay. Also, the rooftop closes in winter, which could be disappointing if you’re looking forward to it.

After a long day, it was handy to have the option of dining in the restaurant or taking food to the room. The in-house restaurant was delicious, and I liked unwinding in the lounge, which had festive holiday decorations during my visit. Water stations on each floor were another nice touch. Staff were kind and helpful throughout, and the room was cute and clean. The property is in the best possible location. I’d stay again, 5-+ stars!
