Sallisaw Inn

I was worn out passing through and stopped to look at this hotel, but the office smelled like weed as soon as I opened the door. The owners were sitting there and gave me an odd, unwelcome look from head to toe, then just said “yes” instead of greeting me. The room I saw was old, moldy, and smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. They wanted about $80 for it, so despite being tired I kept driving to van buren,AR, where I found much better options.

The location was handy for the interstate, but set off in a quiet, somewhat secluded spot with a small local cafe/restaurant next door. It felt safe, and the staff were kind and helpful. My room was clean and adequate, with modest furniture in good shape. The HVAC was clean and worked as it should. The mattress was a little firmer than elsewhere, though still comfortable, and the old hanging rack worked fine. Coffee, shampoo, and soap were basic and enough for one person for one night, so ask for extra supplies if you're staying longer or sharing. For the price, it was better than I expected, and I'd stay again.

Easy to find, but I wouldn't choose to stay more than one night. There wasn't any smell, though the carpet at the wall edges looked as if it had been wet before. The tile floor corners need scrubbing or the grout needs redoing. The walls and doors clearly have many coats of paint, and it's hard to know when the fabric couch and desk chair were last shampoo-cleaned.

The hosts were friendly and welcoming, and the room cooled quickly from pretty warm with the excellent AC. It was unoccupied before we arrived. The place was impressively clean, and the shower had hot water right away. The bed felt fairly new, though a little firm, as these old bones can tell. Great value. There's no breakfast, but I don't think that warrants paying extra. We'd absolutely stay again, 10/10.
