Candlewood Suites San Antonio Downtown by IHG

I used the room for the day while my teens went to Six Flags. It was large, the beds were comfortable, and the front desk was very helpful.

The room was spacious and tidy, and the property was clean and well kept. My mom and I had a pleasant stay, with no problems checking in or out. The front desk employee greeted me warmly and was kind. It was too cold in the room when we arrived, though, and it took a while to warm up. My only other issue was housekeeping trying to come in twice before our noon checkout. I’d called the night before to confirm the time. My mom felt we were being hurried out, but I told her it was fine as long as we left at noon or a minute or two early. There’s no breakfast, but they have free coffee, tea, and water, plus a room where you can buy snacks. Google Maps sent us to an exit, then said it was the wrong one and rerouted us. I can’t remember which exit it picked, but it was supposed to be the one before the exit it shows.

The guy who checked us in was awesome, and we had a great stay. The beds were comfortable, things were quiet, and the staff were friendly. There are minor issues, like paint that needs touching up and outdated rooms. If you’re not someone who complains about every little thing and those basics matter to you, it’s worth staying here. We’ll definitely return when we’re back in San Antonio.

The hotel is affordable and nice, but the smell was horrible. The rooms and hallway smelled like wet, moldy carpet, and it made my nose burn. They should deep-clean the carpets or replace them with tile. At check-in, the woman told me to “wait 10 mins” without explaining why or even saying please. It was 3:30 p.m., half an hour after check-in began, and I was the only person in line. I wouldn’t book here again.
