The entrance to Riverside Suites can be confusing. It’s on a side street with no marked street parking, so you pull up to unload, then leave the car in a nearby garage. Staff were waiting to help when we arrived. The street had us wondering if we were in the wrong place or had chosen badly, but inside, the 1928 building felt unique and modernized, and we were comfortable. Our fourth-floor suite had four windows looking onto a busy Riverwalk, with music late at night that didn’t keep us from sleeping. Many attractions are close, and we walked to restaurants, Tower of the Americas, and The Alamo. Staff were friendly and attentive each time we came and went. We got invited to a “meeting,” but there was no pressure and no pestering phone calls. We ate out at least once each day. You can cook there as long as you don’t need an oven. Grocery stores were too far to walk to, though CVS and other shops had basics at premium prices.
The rooms were clean and roomy, with a great view, and everyone at the front desk was delightful. We brought a sound machine for the late-night noise, and it worked wonderfully. There weren’t the amenities we’re used to, but being so close to everything made up for that. Parking was a disaster. We were reluctant to leave because finding a space again sounded like a nightmare. We plan to come back next year.
The location made it easy to walk to restaurants and the River Walk, though the street itself wasn’t the nicest. We stayed just under a week and found the place clean. The rooms felt small and could use more amenities, especially in-room laundry. They’d run out of parking passes, but kindly made up for it. Staff were great and quick to respond whenever we asked for something.
The encounter with Jesse completely changed how I view Wyndham, and I even canceled my Wyndham Riomar reservations in Puerto Rico. I’d be cautious around their street and sales teams. Near Wyndham Club San Antonio Riverwalk, Jesse came up to me aggressively to pitch a timeshare or hotel stay. I declined several times, but he kept following me and got more confrontational. I finally told him, “Walk away before this turns ugly,” before he left me alone. About ten seconds later, I turned back to get his name and the company details. He was high-fiving coworkers and laughing, as if provoking me were an achievement. Roughly ten minutes after that, I saw him alone, without his coworkers or the DPS trooper who’d been about 40 feet away earlier. He suddenly looked down at his phone, avoided eye contact, and acted as though I wasn’t there. I found the whole experience extremely uncomfortable and unprofessional. If Wyndham allows or encourages this kind of conduct to sell timeshares or hotel rooms, that’s unacceptable. Harassing and intimidating people isn’t sales; it’s misconduct.
The staff were really friendly and helpful, and the location works perfectly for the River Walk or the Alamo. We didn’t hear any nighttime noise at all. Maybe Tuesday and Wednesday were quieter, or perhaps being on the seventh floor facing the street rather than the river helped. We had a great time and highly recommend it.
